Obituary of Alan F. Tappen

Alan Tappen, 71, of Mt. Arlington passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Tuesday February 1, 2022.

Born in Morristown, NJ on April 21, 1950 to the late John and Mary (Jewell) Tappen, Alan has resided in Mt. Arlington for most of his life. He graduated from Roxbury High School and earned his Bachelor's degree in accounting from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Alan was a self-employed owner/operator of Tappen Market/Liquors in Mt. Arlington for more than 40 years.

Alan enjoyed fishing and camping with his buddies, always looked forward to Wildwood vacations with his family, loved his trucks and being outdoors on his property. Alan's family was his greatest joy and he loved to spend time with his grandkids and favorite beagle, Sammy. He attended Catholic Church and previously volunteered with the Mt. Arlington Fire Department.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years Mary, four children Karen Coyle and her husband Pat, Susan Larnerd and her husband Mitch, Laurie Alioto and her husband Chris and Alan Tappen, Jr. and his wife Alyssa, eight grandchildren Colin, Julie and Kaitlyn Coyle, Alexandria and Jacob Larnerd, Olivia and Emilia Alioto and Charles Tappen, two brothers John Tappen, Jr. and his wife Carol and Glenn Tappen and his wife Anne and nieces and nephews John, Holly, Jennifer and Christopher.

Alan's Life Celebration will include a Memorial Mass on Friday, February 25 at 11am at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Mt. Arlington. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to American Heart Association at www.heart.org.
