My first memory of Eugene is from 1973. I came to visit Marilyns parent (my uncle and aunt) in New Jersey from Scotland. I thought of him as a solid, hard working man who would do anything for his family and that included me when I met him. I heard a lot throughout the years from my uncle and aunt about how Marilyn, Eugene and family were getting on but it was to be over 40 years before I was in New Jersey and met him again in person. Marilyn and Eugene took us out for dinner and he was the same solid, dependable, kind man that I had first met as an 18 year old. I will always smile when I think of him and that is a very special thing to achieve considering we only met twice on person. - From Margaret.
Mike (Margaret’s husband here) In the early 80’s I was sent by my then employer for training in Hartford Conn. I travelled through to Landing one weekend to spend time with Marilyn and family. The warmth of that welcome stays with me to this day, not least for the friendship shown to me by Eugene when at that time I was effectively a stranger to him. He impressed me as a ‘gentle giant’ whose love for his family spoke volumes about the man. Although he will be sorely missed his memory will live on in all of us.
