Obituary of Charles A. Marotta
Charles A. Marotta of Acworth, Georgia and formerly of Hopatcong passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 3, 2022 surrounded by his loving wife. He was 76 years old. "Charlie" was born on July 22, 1946 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Charles and the late Adeline (nee Marsilia) Marotta.
Charlie dedicated his professional life to law enforcement. He was proud of his varied and distinguished career in public service. His started his law enforcement career as a police officer for the Stanhope Borough Police Department and then transferred to the Hopatcong Borough Police Department. Later, he then accepted a Sherriff's officer position with the Hillsborough County Sherriff's Department in Florida.
After moving back to New Jersey, Charlie then accepted a position as a police officer with the Blairstown Police Department where he would eventually earn the rank of Chief of the department. After serving as Chief at Blairstown, he then accepted a position with the Morris County Sherriff's Department where he eventually retired. Charlie had a terrific sense of humor and made friends where ever he went. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, target shooting and spending time with his family and friends. Charlie was a devoutly religious man and very involved in several places of worship.
Charlie is survived by his beloved wife, Sherry (nee Fryman), his devoted children, Jennifer Marotta, Christina Yetter and Catherine Mitchell, his cherished grandchildren, Thomas, Aaron, Christian, Ashley, AJ, Kolby and Ella and his great-grandchildren, Melody, Madeline, Colton, Jackson and JoJo. Additional survivors include his siblings, Butch Marotta, Matthew Marotta, Emily Luciani and Roseann Marotta and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Charlie's Life Celebration will include a visitation on Tuesday, November 8th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ 07850. There will be a prayer service offered on Wednesday morning, November 9th at 10:00am also at the funeral home. Charlie will be laid to rest at Stanhope Union Cemetery in Mt. Olive Twp., NJ.
