Obituary of Antonio E. Sanchez
Antonio "Tony" Sanchez Sr., beloved Husband, Father, Uncle and "Lito" of Landing, NJ passed away peacefully on Friday, December 30, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 90 years old. Mr. Sanchez was born on June 11, 1932 in La Coruna, Spain to the late Antonio Eusabio and the late Emilia (Gomez) Sanchez.
Mr. Sanchez resided in Landing, NJ for the past 33 years and previously lived in Hopatcong, NJ. Tony lived the American Dream, he was a self-made man who immigrated from his beloved La Coruna, Spain to the United States in 1956. In his early years, Tony worked as a Merchant Marine and an Operator Engineer with Local #15 in New York City. Tony along with his wife, owned and operated Tony Sanchez Ltd. in Ledgewood, NJ for more than 47 years.
Tony was the patriarch of a large and very loving family. His family takes great comfort in knowing that he will continue to watch over them, to guide them and to inspire them for the rest of their lives. He was a great friend and mentor to all. Tony loved the water and he enjoyed boating, sailing, music, singing, fine wine, traveling and reading. Most importantly Tony, cherished the heartfelt time spent with his loving family. He was a member of, La Casa Galicia Club in Astoria Queens, the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club, the Orden de la Vieira, Colonel in the Kings Guard and a past member of the Mt. Arlington Knights of Columbus. In addition, Tony was instrumental in bringing the Royal Bagpipe Band of Ourense, Spain to march and play annually in the New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade.
Tony is survived by his devoted sons, Tony Jr. & his wife, Lori and Andy & his wife, Sheri, his cherished grandchildren who knew him as their affectionate "Lito", Gabriella, Julianna, Andrew, Sophia and Olivia. Additional survivors include his sister, Maria and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews and dear friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Andrea in 2017 and his brother, Gerardo Sanchez in 2005.
Tony's Life Celebration will include visitation on Wednesday, January 4th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. There will be a funeral mass on Thursday, January 5th at 10:00 am at St. Jude RC Church, 40 Maxim Drive in Hopatcong, NJ. Family & friends are invited to meet directly at the church on Thursday morning. Tony will be laid to rest with his beloved wife at Locust Hill Cemetery & Mausoleum in Dover, NJ.
