Obituary of Leonard Voytush

Leonard V. Voytush passed away on Friday, November 30, 2012. Len was born and raised in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania. The oldest of three brothers (Joseph and Henry), his parents were 2nd generation Slovak and Polish, his father Joseph was a coal miner and accomplished musician, his mother Stefania (Ciempola) was a beloved Polish homemaker. Leonard graduated from Nanticoke High School in 1943, where he was a basketball star. Two days after graduating, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and went on to serve in the U.S. Army Battery C 283rd Field Artillery Battalion until January 26, 1946. Len served as a "canoneer" in Europe during World War II from May 1944 thru August 1945 and saw action in the Normandy Hedgerow Battles, Battle of Cologne and Battle of the Bulge. Len was a Customer Service Director for McGregor-Doniger Sportswear in Dover for 20 years, and later served in the same capacity with Block Industries in New York City until his retirement in 1991. Len had served his Mt. Arlington community in numerous capacities through the years. He was a volunteer firefighter and rescue squad member, and also coached little league baseball. He was a parishioner of the Our Lady of the Lake Church since 1956- and served in many capacities including usher, fund raiser and Church Council. Len was also involved as a leadership member of his neighborhood community-The Alamac Country Club Association. Len and his late wife Jeanne (Tyburski) raised their family first in Pennsylvania and then Mt. Arlington. Len was the proud father of Sandy (Bob), Sharon, Brian and Beth Ann, and loving Grandfather of Andrew and Stephany. Len enjoyed spending time with family and friends-especially his golf buddies and colleagues from the McGregor-Doniger days. He was an avid reader, historian, gardener, sports fan and advisor-he loved life at the Lake and was proud to be one of the "original settlers" of the Alamac Estates at Breslin Park in Mt. Arlington.
