Obituary of Eleanor R. Schelling

Eleanor Regina Kolesar Schelling of Hopatcong, NJ passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Morristown Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.  She was 91 years old.  Eleanor was born on August 10, 1931 in Port Blanchard, Pa. to the late George and the late Mary (Pavlica) Kolesar.

Eleanor was a longtime resident of Hopatcong, NJ where she served as the Tax Assessor for many years.   Mrs. Schelling also was employed as a draft person at Picatinny Arsenal.  She was a certified State of New Jersey Tax Assessor and past treasurer of the Byram Bay Cove Club.  In addition, Eleanor was a longtime member of the Byram Bay Christian Church.

Mrs. Schelling enjoyed reading, gardening, doing crossword puzzles, water color painting, sewing and shopping on QVC.  Eleanor also liked fishing in Lake Hopatcong, crabbing in Cape May and walking the boards in Atlantic City.  But most importantly, Eleanor cherished her time with her devoted family and many friends.

Eleanor is survived by her devoted children, Karen Schelling, Joanne Scarpanito (John), William T. Schelling (Jasmin) and James Schelling and her cherished grandchildren, Noell, Racquel and Jillian.  Additional survivors include, her sister, Jean Zapusek, her sister-in-law, Sally Ann Search, three great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.  She was predeceased by her beloved husband, William “Bill” in 2014.

Eleanor’s Life Celebration will include a visitation on Wednesday, April 26^th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ.  There will be a Prayer Service offered on Thursday morning, April 27^th at 10:00 am also at the funeral home.  Eleanor will be laid to rest with her husband at the Stanhope Union Cemetery in Mt. Olive Twp., NJ.
