Obituary of Marie Thurnes

Marie Thurnes, 85, of the Landing section of Roxbury Township passed away Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Morristown Medical Center, Morristown.

Born in Flushing, New York on January 15, 1938 to the late Thomas and the late Melina (Borruso) Falino. Marie resided in Rockaway with her husband and family, prior to moving to Landing in 1993, where Rudy and Marie built their dream home on the lake. Marie had many different professions, which she loved, including being an aide in the Rockaway Township school system and secretarial work for Smart Corporation in Parsippany. Marie was a devoted parishioner and secretary at St. Clement Pope & Martyr Roman Catholic Church in Rockaway.

Marie enjoyed cooking, reading, writing poetry for family and friends, gardening, playing Bingo/cards, and watching the Mets and TV game shows, especially Jeopardy. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with family and friends. Marie was involved in her children and grandchildren's lives, making sure to attend every concert and sporting event. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings, holidays, and barbecues for her loved ones.

Beloved wife of Rudolph Thurnes, devoted mother of Glenn Thurnes (Donna) and Renee De Luca (Michael), and adoring grandmother of Nicole Stafford (Sean), Loren De Luca, Ryan Thurnes and Brad Thurnes.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Marie's Life Celebration on Wednesday September 6, 2023 from 5:00-8:00 PM at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. A funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday, September 7, 2023 beginning at 10:00 AM at St. Clement Pope & Martyr Roman Catholic Church, 154 Mt. Pleasant Avenue, Rockaway Township, NJ. All are invited to meet directly at church for Mass. Marie will be laid to rest at Locust Hill Mausoleum, 168 North Sussex Street, Dover, NJ.
