Obituary of Richard P. Vergona

Richard P. Vergona, of Hopatcong, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 19, 2023, at home, surrounded by family.

He was 71 years old.

Born on June 25, 1952, to the late Richard and the late Virginia (Carugati) Vergona in Cliffside Park, he lived in Ridgefield prior to moving to Hopatcong.

A lifelong crane operator, motorcycle enthusiast and talented musician, Richard enjoyed writing his own songs, playing guitar, and piano. He was also a passionate football player, All Star Hall of Fame (Cliffside Park) and played at Iowa State.

Beloved husband of Michelle (Gwynn) Vergona. Devoted father of Brigit Kanelos (Peter), Michael Vergona (Andrea) Sidney Sullivan (Scott Romanelli) and Richie Vergona. Cherished grandfather of Michael, Tyler, Lily, Theo, Anthony, and Stella. Loving great grandfather of Dominic. Dear brother of Susan Melone, Michael, and Steven Vergona. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Richard's Life Celebration on Saturday, November 25, from 3:00PM to 7:00PM at the Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing. A Prayer Service will begin at 6:30PM.
