Deepest Sympathies to the beautiful Malanga Family. I was so sad to hear recently that my favorite teacher EVER had past.
I remember when he introduced us his students, with the famous book “Dale Carnegie” How to win friends & Influence people. I never knew that I would refer to it my entire life & always remembered the one introduce me to it.
Rest in eternal peace George you will live on in my heart.

I am so sad to read that Mr. Malanga passed away. He was such a wonderful man and my very favorite teacher. I always remember him standing outside his classroom and greeting us students as we walked into homeroom class. Even when I was 5 minutes late he would look at me from his chair and give me a smile. When I got married he placed us with one of his wonderful bands because his band was unavailable for our wedding date. I was lucky enough to see him every 3 months as I work at the Hopatcong Municipal building and he would come and pay his taxes. When I told him I enjoyed seeing him every three months he said you like to see me pay my taxes don’t you as he laughed. Mr. Malanga you will be forever in my heart as my favorite teacher from Hopatcong High School class of 1986. I will miss seeing you every 3 months even though you were paying your taxes. You made my day when you came in. R.I.P. Sending deepest condolences to your family and friends and all who love you.

The world was a better place because George lived in it. Bill, Paul, and I were fortunate to have known him. We send our love to Jill, Georgie, Brielle, and your entire family.
I’m not sure of the years these were taken. The first is from a LHYC Holiday Party, and George is standing next to his brother. The second is from a LHYC 4th of July boat parade. George is playing his favorite instrument.

On behalf of the entire Scala family of Hopatcong, and throughout the country, we would like to extend our sincerest condolences on George's passing.
My mother Lola was a long time friend of George's and a fellow employee of the Hopatcong school district. My brother John (HHS Class of 1976), sister Karen (Class of 1979), as well as myself (Class of 1980), all knew "Mr. Malanga" as students. The "George Lang Orchestra" even performed at my wedding in 1983.
Before graduating high school, George invited me to one of his many jam sessions at his house and insisted I bring my guitar. Although I was not a seasoned musician at 17 years of age, he encouraged me nonetheless and gave me great advice – "Never be afraid to play with people who are 'better' than you. Those are the ones who can teach you something. There will always be better musicians, but you won't learn anything from those who aren't." Decades later, that encouragement led me to sit in with several professional musicians and hold my own. I will always cherish that advice and pass it along to this day.
We hope many fond memories will be a comfort to you in your time of loss.
Sincerely, Mark Scala, Hopatcong H.S. Class of 1980, Newburgh, NY.

So very sorry to hear of the passing of George. He was a really great man and I am glad I got to know him. He was kind and really hilarious, a bright light for those he was in the room with. A memory I love is him singing at the wedding reception of Lauren and I. The greatest present someone can give is sharing their gift. My thoughts are with Jill and the family.

Mr Malanga was my Distributive Education & DECA teacher for 1st period at HHS during my junior and senior years, 1981-1983. Such a great way to start the day. He often sang in class and was a very funny man. He called me "Celica" because of my last name. I remember how he would let Diane Eckhart and me drink our Quick Chek coffee in class, as long as we brought one for him too! He left such an impression, helped me make choices for life after high school.
40+ years later and I remember my time with him like it was yesterday. He made a difference. My deepest sympathy to his family and all who loved him.
