Obituary of Marie J. Lothian

Marie J. Lothian, of Hopatcong, passed away peacefully on Friday June 7, 2024 at Newton Medical Center.

Born on June 24, 1945 in Orange, NJ to the late Philip and the late Ann (Scaringello) Bruno, Marie resided in East Hanover prior to moving to Hopatcong in 1968.

Marie retired from Automatic Switch in Florham Park. She also worked as a crossing guard in Hopatcong for many years, as an aide at the West Side United Methodist Church Daycare Center and for Sandoz Pharmaceutical in East Hanover.

Marie's greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family. She would call her daughters several times each day to ensure they were safe. Her grandsons meant the world to her. Marie loved animals, especially dogs. She also enjoyed watching soap operas and discussing them with her Aunt Rosetta.

Marie was a member of the Hopatcong Fire Department Women's Auxiliary for over 20 years.

Marie was predeceased by her husband; Lawrence, sister; Angela Pela and brother; Victor Bruno.

Survivors include her daughters; Lisa Smith and her husband Scott and Lori Buff and her husband; Anthony, grandchildren; Anthony Buff, Jacob Buff and Dominic Buff, step-grandchildren; Matthew Smith, Brian Smith and his wife; Kelly and Michael Smith, step-great grandchildren; Kaiden Smith and Ian Smith, brother; Philip Bruno and his wife; Debbie, brother-in-law; Edward Pela, sister-in-law; Eileen Kinsey and her husband Skip and many nieces and nephews.

Marie's Life Celebration will include a graveside inurnment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 225 Ridgedale Avenue, East Hanover, NJ to be announced in the future. Arrangements are entrusted to Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, Landing, NJ. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org or any animal rescue or shelter of your choice.
