Michael Palmieri

Obituary of Michael A. Palmieri

Michael A. Palmieri, 83, of Belvidere, NJ passed away on Monday July 22, 2024 at Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital in Center Valley, PA.

Born in Bronx, NY, on January 20, 1941 to the late Marco and the late Antonina (Cammalleri) Palmieri, Michael resided in Hopatcong and Blairstown prior to moving to Belvidere in 1988.  He was a graduate of Roxbury High School Class of 1958.  He served proudly in the US Army National Guard.  He was a member of American Legion. Michael was employed by Laborers Union Local 472 of Newark, NJ for 45 years prior to his retirement in 2003.

Michael’s greatest joy was spending time with his family, which consisted of his three children and four grandchildren. He also enjoyed classic cars, fishing and playing the lottery. In high school he was know as a “whiz on ice skates” per his yearbook. He loved fast cars and was fast to help others. Known as “Pops” and “Pop Pop” to his children and grandchildren, they recount his gift of telling stories. His face would light up as he humored them with stories of his past….chasing down airplanes in Switzerland, tri-state arm wrestling champion, earning the nickname “the tiger” and many others. Although he is no longer with us, memories of “Pops” and “Pop Pop” will live on in his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his children; Shauna Volmrich and her husband; Brian, Marc Palmieri and his wife; Jen and Mikey Palmieri four grandchildren; Micah & Jonas Volmrich and Olivia and Lucas Palmieri and a brother; Joseph Palmieri.

Michael’s Life Celebration will include visiting hours on Saturday, July 27 from 2:00-4:00 PM at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ.  A family service and eulogy will be offered beginning at 3:00 PM Saturday afternoon at the funeral home.  Michael will be laid to rest in a private ceremony.  In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network at https://www.goodshepherdrehab.org/sweet-charity/ways-to-give/ .
