Obituary of James Cobb

James "Coach" Cobb, 87, long-time resident of Hopatcong, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at St. Clare's Hospital, Denville Campus surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Queens, NY on November 13, 1936 to the late Arthur and the late Louise Cobb, Jim served proudly in the United States Air Force. He was a graduate of John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City. Jim was a Police Officer with the Englewood Police Department for 31 years before retiring in 1990.

Jim was a respected and admired football and girls' softball coach for many years with the Hopatcong Warriors, Hopatcong High School and Pope John High School. He also served as a substitute teacher for the Hopatcong Board of Education. Jim loved watching football, crime dramas and comedies. He also enjoyed reading and gardening.

Survivors include his wife; Susan Lee, children Janet May (Daniel), Rita Cobb, James Cobb, II (Jennifer) and Annie Cobb, stepson; Kori (Kory), grandchildren; Kimberly (Jonathan), Gregory (Kerry), Emily, Morgan (Andrew), Chase, Reese, Donovan, RitaMarie (Stuart) and Nicolette, step grandchildren; Rebecca, Hayley, Ashley, McKenzie and Kacie and great grandchildren; Savannah, Charlotte, Jackson, Colton, Jamison and Haven.

Jim's Life Celebration will include visiting hours on Thursday, August 8 from 4:00-8:00 PM, a prayer service will be offered on Friday, August 9 beginning at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Family and Friends may begin gathering at the funeral home at 9:30 AM Friday morning. Jim will be laid to rest at Stanhope Union Cemetery in Mt. Olive Township.
