Obituary of John M. Leonard

John Leonard, a fiercely independent spirit and beloved member of the family, passed away at home on September 17, 2024. He fulfilled his heart's desire to be surrounded by the familiar comforts of his home, a place of peace and tranquility nestled among trees, after a few months of health challenges.

John had a profound love for doo-wop music and was an avid 45 RPM record collector. He cherished his time spent in nature, especially during visits with the Passmore family near Bell Run, Pa. Family gatherings brought him immense joy, and he found great peace in fishing, always practicing catch and release. With an impressive career spanning over 50 years, John was renowned for his exceptional skills as a carpenter, embodying the art of old-fashioned craftsmanship.

He was predeceased by his parents, Ellen Passmore Leonard and John Leonard; his brother, Patrick Leonard; his life partner and adventure companion, Linda Goldsmith; and her son, Michael Goldsmith.

John is survived by his siblings, Karen McGregor and William Leonard; his son, Daniel, and daughter-in-law, Michelle Leonard; Step - daughters, Jeanette Peraza and Kelly O’Connor; brother-in-law, Mark Reusch, and his wife, Maria Theresa; and his cherished grandchildren, Alexia Leonard, Haley Leonard, Jaylen Caraballo, Julian Caraballo, and Darian Peraza, his nephew, Paul Reusch, and his beloved cat, Matty.

John's legacy of independence, craftsmanship, love of nature, and fondness for cornmeal blueberry pancakes will forever resonate with those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by family and friends alike.

John’s services were held privately and entrusted to Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, Landing, NJ.
