Obituary of Richard M. Smith
Richard M. Smith, 77, of the Landing section of Roxbury Township, passed away peacefully on Thursday November 21, 2024 at St. Clare's Hospital, Denville Campus surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Dover, NJ on March 12, 1947 to the late Michael and Janet (Wemple) Smith, Richard was a graduate of Netcong High School Class of 1966 and served proudly in the United States Army in the Vietnam War and the NJ National Guard.
Richard worked as a truck mechanic at Air Products and Chemicals for 30 years and later as a security guard at Roxbury High School prior to his retirement. Richard was a simple man who enjoyed the outdoors. He especially enjoyed sitting outside in the sun, watching the seasons change, the beauty of the trees changing colors, and contemplating life while sitting by the shore of Lake Hopatcong. He loved music, especially Marty Robbins, Johnny Cash and the old-time country songs and everything that was 1950s and 60s music too. Richard's greatest joys in life were being kind, loving his children, and being a good friend.
Survivors include daughters Courtney Griffith (Vaughn) and Lindsay Salomon (Bedginald) and son; Richard Smith, Jr. (Regina), eight grandchildren; Catherine & Victoria Griffith, Zachary Butchyk, Daniel Salomon and Dylan, Quinn, Sylvie & Reed Smith, sister Sharon Popelka and brother; James Smith (Sue).
Richard's arrangements are entrusted to Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, Landing, NJ. The family will be announcing a Life Celebration for Richard in the future.
