Obituary of Edith A. Sanford
Edith "Streakie" Aneita (Wright) Sanford, 86, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Friday December 20. She was born on August 18, 1938 in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica to the late Sanford Wright and Violet (Sinclair) Wright.
Edith graduated from the University of the West Indies, Kingston, Jamaica as a registered nurse. Her daughter and 4 granddaughters are the apple of her eyes. Many times, she would go to her granddaughter's games and track meets, even when we knew it was too cold or too hot for her, but she would be in the stands cheering for them regardless. Edith loved to travel. She has lived in England, Canada and the US. She has traveled throughout the US, the Caribbean and Europe. Although she never made it to travel to Israel, her heart was always to see the land of her Savior, Jesus. She always talked about from the age of 5, she wanted to be a nurse. Nursing was her passion and calling. After nursing school in Jamaica, she travelled to England and Canada to continue her studies. Edith furthered her nursing career in the United States. She loved nursing and was loved dearly by the many loves she touched during her nursing profession. Edith was a very generous person. Not only would she always want to help her daughter or grandchildren, she contributed financially too many organizations and many churches. She was a long-time member of Englewood Assembly of God, Englewood, NJ and later was a part of Transformation Life Church, Wood Ridge, NJ and Mountain Top Church, Mt. Olive, NJ.
Edith is survived by her daughter Antoinette "Toni" (Sanford) Redmond. Her loving grandchildren Julia Redmond, Sophia Redmond, Natasha Redmond and Rachel Redmond. Her siblings Doretta Heron, Lineve "Lynn" Wright and late Alvis Wright. She is also survived by her nephew's Leroy Heron, Omari Heron, niece Claudette Heron, grandnephew Cyrus Heron and grandniece Marcia Heron.
Edith's Life Celebration will include visiting hours on Saturday December 28 from 12:00-4:00 PM at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. A funeral service will be offered on Monday December 30 beginning at 10:00 AM at Mountaintop Church, 6 Naughright Road, Hackettstown, NJ. All are invited to meet directly at church prior to services. Edith will; be laid to rest at Stanhope Union Cemetery, Mt. Olive Township. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Edith's memory to Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.
