Obituary of Richard W. Terwillegar

Richard Wright Terwillegar passed away at home on Wednesday August 1, 2012 after a courageous battle with several illnesses. He was a loving husband and devoted father. His life centered around his family and friends. His positive spirit and compassion were evident as a caring volunteer who was always involved with his community. Dick worked for the Borough of Hopatcong for 25 years. He was a member of the Hopatcong Fire Department for 37 years, a life member of Defiance Engine Company #3, the Hopatcong Firemen's Exempt Association, the Hopatcong Ambulance Squad, the Gold Cross Association and a proud member of the National Guard. Dick, who was a perfectionist in everything he did, was passionate about working with every aspect of the fire company and fire trucks, especially for parades when he could no longer be an active firemen. He loved deep sea fishing, camping, playing cards, wood working, trucks and swapping stories. He was predeceased by a son Richard Terwillegar in 2007, his parents Frederick and Myrtle (Wright) Terwillegar, and his eight siblings. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Patricia Walker Terwillegar, a daughter Tamie, her husband John Iannone and his grandchildren, Julia, Cameron and Brennan Iannone, his sister-in-law Judy Grogan and family, his brother-in-law Dennis Walker and his wife Mary and family, his niece Brenda Mikaliunas and her husband Paul and family, Jim and Linda Reed and family, Grace and Wayne Beam and family and many other nieces and nephews and close friends. He leaves behind his 3 very great friends, John, Cal and Brandt. He was a grandfather figure known as "Pop-Pop" to all that knew and loved him. He will be greatly missed. A special thank you to Dr. Renee Frankel who kept him alive through every illness and always gave him hope and love.
