Obituary of Marie Yates

Marie (Newman) Yates passed away Wednesday March 28, 2012 at Compassionate Care Hospice in Dover. She was 83. Born on August 6, 1928 in Jersey City, to the late Robert and Loretta (Ertle) Newman Marie has resided in Hopatcong for 62 years. She was a telephone operator for Bell Telephone in Jersey City and also worked as an assembler for Automatic Switch Co (ASCO) in Florham Park. Marie was a parishioner of St. Jude Church in Hopatcong and was past president of Hopatcong Hills Fire Co #4 Women's Auxiliary. Marie loved to travel with her husband Robert whenever they could. She loved being outside and working in her yard and listening to music and was especially fond of her collection of Eddie Arnold songs. Above all else, Marie's greatest joy was her family and had a special place in her heart for all her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Marie is predeceased by her mother & father in law Rose and Percy Yates and her brother in law Donald Yates. Devoted wife of Robert, loving mother of son Robert, Jr., daughters Donna Geary, Lorraine Cucinella and husband Sal and Marie Compano and husband Jim, Adoring grandmother of Hannah Caswell, Donald Geary, Sal, Lisa Marie and Eric Cucinella and Jimmy and Dominick Compano, dearest sister of Lorraine Orest and husband Jerry. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Marie's passing leaves an enormous void in the hearts of her family. She was friendly, had a huge heart, a good soul and great courage. Gentle and kind, Marie will be remembered for her compassion and positive approach to life. Although she suffered from Parkinson's disease, she met obstacles and physical pain with remarkable grace and a lot of humor. Those left grieving will remember her goodness and smile.
