Obituary of Arthur F. Volpe

Arthur F. Volpe of Port Morris passed away February 25, 2012 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was 87 Born and raised in Port Morris, he was a lifelong resident. Prior to his retirement, Arthur was a bridge construction supervisor with the Morris County Bridge Department for 38 years. A Navy World War II veteran, he received the Morris County Distinguished Military Metal, World War II Victory Metal, American Campaign Metal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Metal and the NJ Distinguished Service Metal. While in the Navy he was on a ship from San Francisco to Hawaii to Okinawa. He left Okinawa to Hawaii to the Panama Canal to Norfolk VA to Lido Beach Long Island to be discharged. A parishioner of St. Michael's RC Church in Netcong, he also was a Charter Member of the Knights of Columbus Netcong Chapter, a member of the VFW Netcong Chapter, a member of the Roxbury Ever Young Seniors, a member of the Roxbury Fire Company #2 since 1949 and a member of the Relief and Exempt Association. Arthur is credited with saving two lives (one of which was a co-worker) doing CPR. An avid NY Yankees and NY Giants fan, he also enjoyed fishing, hunting, key collecting and traveling. Beloved husband for 57 years of Anna (nee: Meola). Devoted father of Frank and his wife Lynda, Arthur, Michael and his wife Krista and Joan Cafaro and her husband Frank. Loving grandfather of Matthew and Douglas Cafaro and Nicholas, Melissa, Andrew, Genevieve, Gabriella and Jacob Volpe. Dear brother of Theresa Kott, Jean Nichols, Antoinette Whitmore, the late Lillian Grochowicz and late Federico Volpe. Cherished son of the late Frank and the late Jenny Volpe.
