Obituary of Jeanne A. Hewitt
Jeanne A. Hewitt of Mt. Arlington died peacefully on August 8, 2014 at Merry Heart Nursing Center in Succasunna where she had been a resident for a few months. She was 94 years of age. Born in Lyndhurst on March 16, 1920, Mrs. Hewitt was raised in Nutley, graduated from Nutley High School with highest honors and went on to graduate from The Drake School of Business. She was employed by the Bank of Nutley until her marriage to her loving husband Jack, also of Nutley on November 15, 1941. She and Jack moved to Washington, D.C. the following day. Three weeks later Pearl Harbor was attacked. Jack worked for the British Embassy and although he could have remained in the States due to his work, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He brought Jeanne back to Nutley to live with her parents. Jeanne was a 30 year resident of Mt. Arlington and previously resided in Morris Plains for 22 years and prior to that they built their first home in Clifton. She now joins the love of her life, Jack, her son Robert, and her parents Amanda J. and Harry J. Kane in eternal rest. First retired from the Morris County Savings Bank after 18 years of service she then became secretary and bookkeeper for Religious Education Program of St. Michael's Parish, Netcong, N.J. before finally retiring after 15 years of service there. She is survived by her son, Rev. Kenneth R. Hewitt of Mt. Arlington; daughters Kathleen and Susan, a son Jack, a beloved granddaughter Jennifer Brewer and her family; husband, Dana and great-grandchildren Amanda and Grant of Alabama, nine other grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, Janet and Russell Hird of Rochester, MN., one niece and two nephews also of MN. She is sadly missed by her extended family which includes Theresa (Mickey) Hourigan, John E. Gorecki, Sr., Pat McDermott FSP and MaryAnn Kopas whose wonderful family loved "Grandma Jeanne" as well. Private graveside services were held at St. Nicholas Cemetery, Lodi, NJ on August 14, 2014 with the Rev. John Tarantino officiating. Arrangements were under the auspices of Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, Landing, NJ.
