Obituary of Bettina Torrise

BETTINA "Betty" (LICCARDELLO) TORRISE AGE: 85 LANDING. Bettina (Liccardello) Torrise, known to all her many friends as "Betty", long-time resident of Port Morris, died peacefully on January 25, 2011 at home surrounded by family and friends. She was born in the Port Morris section of Landing, daughter of Dominick and Andrea Liccardello on February 1, 1925. She met and married Angelo ("Al") Torrise in 1945 and moved to Port Morris where the couple raised two children. Married for 55 years, her husband died in 2000. Betty was self-employed for 48 years as the owner of Betty Torrise Hairstyling in Landing. She maintained strong bonds with her family, and customers who became like family, over the years. She often counseled those seeking a profession to "do what you love and it will never seem like work". She took her own advice and worked in her beauty salon up until the last several months of her life. For all her commitment to her customers and her work, family was always most important to her. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her children and grandchildren, cooking fabulous Italian meals. She was a role model to many and an inspiration to all - as she faced the end of her life she did so with grace, dignity and peace. Betty is predeceased by her sisters: Madeline Fenimore, Julia Adanuncio, Antoinette Palumbo, Evelyn DeCarolis, Carmella Carbonaro and two brothers: Dominick Liccardello and Stephen Liccardello. She is survived by her children: daughter Maryanne (Torrise) Faschan and son-in-law William Faschan of Sparta, and son Alan Torrise and daughter-in-law Margaret Torrise of Hopatcong; three grandchildren: Steven Faschan, Christopher Faschan and Natalie Torrise. Other survivors include her sister, Lee Passanante of Arlington Heights, Illinois, many beloved nieces and nephews and her dear friend Horton Miller of Randolph.
