Obituary of Signy A. Zetterstrom

Signy A. Zetterstrom of Brooklyn, NY died Tuesday August 31 at her daughter's home in Hopatcong. She was 78 years old. Born in Chicago, IL, Mrs. Zetterstrom resided in Newark, NJ before spending most of her life as a resident of Brooklyn. She received her nursing degree from Long Island College Hospital and was last employed as a Rehabilitation Supervisor at Sephardic Nursing Home in Brooklyn. She was a member of the Board of Directors of the Norwegian Children's Home Association Scholarship Committee, Sons of Norway Nansen Lodge, the Norwegian Folkdance Society and the Bay Ridge Senior Center Board of Directors from 2005-2006. Mrs. Zetterstrom was instrumental in the organization of the Norwegian Immigration Museum at Ellis Island. Her hobbies included sailing, reading, swimming, traveling and Norwegian/Swedish Folk dancing. She was a loving & caring person whose greatest joy was spending time with her family. Survivors include three children; Carol E. Berretta & her husband Lou, Doris S. Grelis and her husband John and H. Erik Zetterstrom and his wife Loretta, her eight grandchildren, Elizabeth C. Berretta, John J. Grelis V, Vincent L. Berretta, Brian J. Grelis, William R. Grelis, Megan S. Grelis, Vivian C. Zetterstrom and Erik J. Zetterstrom, a sister, Karen Zetterstrom and a brother Martin Loyd Egeland and his wife Mary. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial gathering on Saturday September 4 beginning at 10:00 am at the Historical Chapel at Green-Wood Cemetery, 500 25th Street, Brooklyn, NY 11232.
