Obituary of Albert J. Harkness

Albert J. Harkness of Hopatcong passed away Friday March 21, 2014 at Morristown Medical Center, Morristown. He was 75. Born in Newark, he has lived in Hopatcong since 1972. Prior to his retirement, Albert was a manager for Lucent in Morristown. A Marine Corp. Vietnam Era veteran, he was a member of American Legion Post #278 in Stanhope, a founder and past president of the Lake Hopatcong Dart Association, an avid runner, a Karate black belt, a civil war buff and a collector of American Bald Eagle items. Beloved husband of Doris J. (nee: Hague). Devoted father of Keith Harkness (Christine) and Kimberly Mott and her husband Jeffery. Loving grandfather of Alexis and Christian Mott and Declan and Kira Harkness . Dear brother of Veronica Delaney and Lorraine Batren. Also survived by nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Albert's Life Celebration on Wednesday March 26 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at the Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday March 27 at 10:00AM in the funeral home. The funeral home will open at 9:00AM. Albert will be laid to rest at Stanhope Union Cemetery in Mt. Olive Township immediately following. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in his memory may be made to a charity of a person's choice.
