Obituary of Robert Modick

Robert Modick died Sunday June 21, 2009 at St. Clare's Hospital in Dover. He was 77 years old. Born in Summit to Frederick and Mary (Broughton) Modick, he resided in Hopatcong all his life. He served eight years in the US Navy. From 1952-1956 he served as a shipfitter/pipefitter and from 1956-1960 in the Naval Reserves. Mr. Modick was stationed in Bainbridge, MD and Quonset Point, RI and served on the USS Antietam during its conversion to the world's first true cantilever-deck aircraft carrier. He was the owner/operator of Modick Wood Products in Hopatcong, also owned the Village Marina in Hopatcong and previously owned and operated Hopatcong Excavating. He was the longest serving active member of the Hopatcong Fire Department where he has been a member for 56 years. He served as Department Chief from 1963-1965. He was Treasurer of Hopatcong Fire Co. #3 for over 35 years, a life member of the Hopatcong Ambulance Squad, served on the Hopatcong Board of Health for over 30 years where he formerly served as President. Mr. Modick was currently serving on the Hopatcong Town Council. Mr. Modick was predeceased by his wife, Isabelle (Lees) in 1989. Survivors include his son, Bruce and Daughter, Sharon. He is also survived by his companion, Estelle R. Klein.
