Obituary of Ralph Merritt

Ralph Merritt, Sr., of Hackettstown, formerly of Landing, passed away on Sunday February 16 at Andover Subacute and Rehabilitation Center. He was 86. Ralph was a resident of Landing since 1964 before moving to Hackettstown one year ago. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator and a member of Local #825A Operating Engineers for many years. Ralph served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He was a member of VFW Post # 10559 of Byram Township where he served as past Commander and Ralph was also a member of the Sussex County Marine Corps League, 1st Division Association NJ Chapter, 6th Marine Division and China Marine Association where he held various offices. He was predeceased by a son, Carl in 1972 and a sister, Anna Messenger. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Jeanette (Errico), 5 children, Beverly Merritt, William Merritt and wife Patricia, Peter Merritt and wife Undine, Karen Winarz and husband Henry and Ralph Merritt, Jr., 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Ralph's Life Celebration on Saturday February 22 from 5-8 pm at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, Landing. Cremation will be held privately. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to a charity of your choice.
