Father Ryan was the shepherd we were looking for. He left a deep imprint on our lives in the short 10 months that we have known him. He looked at you, not over you or through you, when he greeted us at the door. He cared enough to know our names. He made us feel loved. His love for all of us at Our Lady of the lake will be noticeable gone; we will miss that nurturing. However, he is home now. Father Ryan, THANK YOU.

I am saddened to learn of the sudden loss of dear Father Ryan - I am a life-long Our Lady of the Laker, graduate of Our Lady of the Lake School ... now living in NYC ... however, a week-end member of the Our Lady of the Lake Church and community. Father Ryan was a kind and generous spiritual leader - whom without a doubt inspired those of my generation to continue to connect with our failth. I will deeply miss his smiling face and kind greeting at the doors of our beloved Our Lady of the Lake Church. Father Ryan never forgot a name or a face - and was always kindly concerned about my family. God Bless our dear Father Ryan - my thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

Since moving to Oak Ridge 5-1/2 years ago, I was looking unsuccessfully for a new parish. A friend, knowing Fr. Joe, suggested his parish, where I now call home. My husband and I will miss his sense of humor, and his kindness. I will miss him at mass. (and my husband will miss buying him his Aruba golf caps!) May his spirit, grace, and kindness live forever!

Father Ryan once said that we don't take our possessions with us when we die, we might not even take our way of thinking here on earth. The one thing we will take, as Jesus taught us, is our ability to love. That is the link between Heaven and earth and that is what we need to practice.
We know he will be right at home in Heaven because he practiced loving people every day of his life.

I came to this Our Lady of the Lake 9 years ago and will always remember walking into the front door and there was Father Ryan. His first words to me were "Welcome to Our Lady of the Lake". I knew I found a place to hang my hat and call home. Thank you, Father Ryan. You brought me back to the Church and I was always eager to attend Mass.
