Obituary of Salvatore "Sam" Chiarella

Salvatore "Sam" Chiarella, 85, of Hopatcong passed away on Sunday August 23, 2015 surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Paterson on March 22, 1930 to the late Anthony and Lucy (Vasile) Chiarella, Sam resided in Paterson, grew up in Newton where he graduated, both, grammar school and high school before moving back to Paterson and eventually to Hopatcong in 1973. Sam also spent much time at his residence in Palm Beach, FL. He served proudly in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Sam was the Owner/operator of Main Army/Navy Store in Paterson for many years. Sam enjoyed gardening and bowling, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family. Sam was predeceased by a son, Kenneth in 1960. Survivors include his wife, Norma (Brizzi), his children Michael and wife, Fern, Richard and wife, Eunice and Patricia and her companion, Jim Moore, five grandchildren, Nicole, Anthony, Carly, Nicholas and Christopher, one great grandchild, Jayden and a brother, Anthony and his wife, Mary. Also surviving is a niece, Gina. Sam's Life Celebration will include visitation on Friday August 28 from 4-8 PM at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. A prayer service will be offered on Saturday August 29 at 9:30 AM at the funeral home. Sam will be laid to rest at Stanhope Union Cemetery in Mt. Olive Township.
