Obituary of Henry F. Leer

Henry F. Leer of Roxbury Twp., NJ passed away on Friday, October 2nd at St. Clare's Hospital in Denville, NJ. He was 93. Henry was born on September 17, 1922 in Englewood, NJ to the late Frank and the late Mary (Kennedy) Leer. He was very proud of his high school football career at St. Cecilia's in Englewood where he played under Coach Vincent Lombardi. Henry enjoyed living on Lake Hopatcong for most of his life. During his high school years, he spent summers driving ride boats for Beck Brothers and after the war he took over that boat business for a few years. His work life was devoted to being a carpenter/builder. Henry was a WWII Army Veteran serving from 1942 to 1945 with the 234th Engineer Combat Bn. He participated in the D-Day landings on Omaha Beach, Normandy. Henry is survived by his sister, Audrey McGowan, his nephew, Thomas McGowan, his niece, Kathy McGowan, his cousins, George Kennedy, Jason Leer, and Kendall Leer and other family members. He also leaves behind many friends and neighbors on Silver Springs Drive who were very comforting and helpful for many years. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Evelyn, the "love of his life" in 2001 Henry's Life Celebration will include visitation on Wednesday, October 7th from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. There will be a funeral mass on Thursday, October 8th at 10:30 am at St. Therese RC Church, 151 Main Street, Succasunna, NJ. Henry will be laid to rest at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ.
