I have many memories of Aunt Carmella. The one that stands out most, was sitting in her kitcen enjoying a bowl of her homemade chicken soup. Anyone who knew Aunt Carmella knew you couldn't go into her home without her trying to feed you! She was a woman who was truly given to hospitality and generousity. Even at age 92 and in failing health, she was standing at the stove making soup.
I will always remember her as a very strong, determined, independant woman. She lost her Mother at an early age leaving her to care for her siblings. This may have been a huge burden for some but, she took it in stride and did the best job she could. As Robin Roberts Mother said "make your mess your message".and Aunt Carmella did just that. She was generous to everyone but, most especially to her family.
I always admired her ability to tell it like it is. If she liked you, you knew it. If she loved you, she couldn't do enough for you...but...if she didn't like you, you knew that too!
I am so thankful for the few visits I had with her these last few months while she was in Merry Heart. I really enjoyed those visits. Although she wasn't feeling her best, she made me feel very welcome and happy to see me when I walked into her room. I will always have those fond memories.
Life won't seem the same without her but, I thank God He blessed my life by giving me an Aunt like Aunt Carmella. I will never forget how truly special she was not only to me...but...to all my family.
Rest in peace. We love you!
