Phillip Landis

Obituary of Phillip Landis

Phillip Landis of Hopatcong passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at the Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice in Fredon. He was 66. Born in Queens, New York, Phillip was raised in Glen Rock, New Jersey and also lived in Hawthorne prior to moving to Hopatcong in 1984. Preceding his retirement, Phillip was a bookkeeper with Financial Realty Advisors, LLC in Mountain Lakes. Phillip's true passion was music; as a talented self-taught guitarist and bassist, he was thrilled to lend his gift to anyone that invited him to play. A member of countless bands throughout his life, Phillip quickly earned the reputation of never playing the same song the same way twice in his quest for the "perfect riff." Always grateful for the opportunity to share his talents, he could be heard saying "thanks for letting me play," at the end of each and every show he was a part of. Phillip also treasured spending time with his family on Long Beach Island. Anxiously awaiting low tide each day, he could either be found combing the beach for sea glass, or trying his hand at skim boarding or body surfing. When not on the stage or at the beach, Phillip could be found enjoying the company of his dogs, Teddy and Dillon. Phillip is survived by his loving family: his wife of 37 wonderful years, Sandy (nee: Sawler) Landis; son David Landis and his wife Jen Carberry-Landis; daughter Kaitlyn Ners and her husband Maciej Ners; sister Tina Levine; and brother Steven Landis. Phillip is also survived by his first grandson, due in September. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Phillip's Life Celebration on Wednesday, August 2nd from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at the Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing. Sharing of words with musical tributes will begin at 7:00PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Karen Ann Quinlan Memorial Foundation, 99 Sparta Avenue, Newton, NJ 07860.
