Vanessa, my friend, my sister,
I never imagined I would be composing this so soon.
The moment I met you, when you were visiting Dena, I immediately knew you were unique. You wore that uniqueness badge for the entire 51 years we have been friends/sisters. The memories are endless.
Your oh so warm heart and humor was so very comforting to me over these years. The times you knew just when to call. The times I contacted you knowing you would somehow know what I needed to hear. Whether I wanted to hear it or not.
The times you called me for comfort. I know that was difficult as you were not fond of asking for help.
My visits with you, in NY, will always be in my heart. My first subway ride. Your correcting the guide, on the Circle Line Boat. You made sure he knew his stats about the enrollment at Columbia was incorrect. My first Broadway play. Meeting you for a drink after work (at St. John's). I remember thinking how nice it would be if we could do that on a regular basis. Your parents taking us to dinner at a Japanese restaurant and all of us trying to help your mother up. We were all laughing so hard a waiter had to assist. So so many wonderful memories. I am very fortunate to have them.
Now when I say, "Vanessa, stop" I will say it with an especially large smile.
I cannot forget the kindness you and Pat showed another good friend, of mine, when she was in a crisis. Please know that was appreciated.
Your love and devotion to Pat was always evident; especially during extremely difficult times. The world could see how much he meant to you.
After I left the retail advertising world and entered the wonderful world of social services your advice was always welcomed.
Oh how I wish I could hear that amazing laugh just one more time.
I do not feel when I end this I will be saying good-bye. There in no doubt we will be together again. You are now with other folks I love; with my mother being one and we both know what she is saying.
Please know you will always be in my heart.

My deepest condolences to you Pat and to all her family. We all loved her so much. She was a friend to everyone, always listening, and feeling for others. Concerned with everyone's well being. She was always there to listen and give great advice. We'll miss you dear friend. I'll miss you so much. Vanessa my beloved sister friend--I can still hear your voice and especially when you recently said you missed me so much. Forty four years ago we met and worked together in the social work department at St. Lukes Hospital and we bonded forever.
I will always remember you as a loving and devoted wife to Pat, especially during recent times. Also, thank you for dedicating so much of your life in helping others who were ill or just needed to know that someone cared about them.
I am so blessed to have had you in my life. You will forever remain in my heart.

My dear friend--Where have the last 50 years gone since we met on the NYU campus? We didn't expect this to happen now so suddenly but here we are.
You lived a life of helping other people and never waivered from that goal. I'm sure you'll continue that on the other side- -it's just a part of your nature and I believe that you've already helped me this week.
Sorry I can't be there in person but my heart is always with you and I will never forget our friendship.
