When I first met John at a scouting event, I had the impression he was just another grumpy guy who didn't say much. I would often ask if I could help him prepare our meals (John was the committee cook), but he always said no help was needed. I'll never forget the day he said OK and let me husk corn. From that point on I got to known John a little better and we often shared stories of scouting, cooking, and machinery. He was indeed a passionate man, and I loved his broad smile when he told a funny story from his past. I learned that John was one of the nicest people I would ever meet and regret that I did not spend more time with him. He will be missed. Campmaster Dave and Dale-Sussex District Activities Committee
