Obituary of Vernon "Butch" W. Safreed, Jr.
Vernon W. "Butch" Safreed, 72, of Mt. Arlington passed away, peacefully, on Monday October 15, 2018 at Regency Grande in Dover surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Dover, on February 15, 1946, Butch briefly resided in the Landing section of Roxbury prior to moving to Mt. Arlington 52 years ago. Butch had a long career as a mechanic, working for Royal Coachman in Denville, Hockenjos Boat Co. in Lake Hopatcong and Barnes Brothers Marina in Mt. Arlington. Butch also delivered milk for Vin Reilly at Welsh Farms in Mt. Arlington. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching auto racing and boat racing.
Butch was predeceased by a son, Robert in 1989, his parents Wayne and Nora Safreed, his maternal grandparents, Harry and Caroline Begraft and his paternal grandparents, Bradley and Eveleith Safreed.
Survivors include his wife, Faye "Tippy", a son, Thomas, three siblings, Robert (Kathleen), Caroline "Dee" Garrison and Harry (Jennifer), Uncle Carroll Ray (Phyliss) and Aunt Carolyn "Pud" Bailey. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cremation services are private and entrusted to Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. Butch's Life Celebration will include a Memorial Gathering on Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 2-5 PM at St. Peter's Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 50 Edgemere Ave., Mt. Arlington, NJ.
