Obituary of DeWitt Peterson

DeWitt Peterson, 64, of Hopatcong passed away on Tuesday October 16, 2018 at Compassionate Care Hospice at St. Clare’s in Dover, NJ.

Born in Dover on July 9, 1954 to the late Ralph and Marion (Shupe) Peterson, DeWitt grew up in Dover and has resided in Hopatcong for over 20 years.  A graduate of Morris Knolls High School, DeWitt worked as a Oil Service Technician for Dixon Bros., Inc. in Mountain Lakes, NJ.  He enjoyed classic cars, shooting, fishing and listening to Country Western music.  DeWitt was also a member of the East Dover Social Club.

DeWitt was preceded in death by Albert Jack Peterson, Helena (Chuggie) Carson, John (Tom) Peterson and Bryan Peterson.

Survivors include two children, Jamie Peterson and Vickie Merolle, eight grandchildren, Emma and Tyler Peterson and Owen, Hazel, Anthony, Joseph, Zachary and Nathan Merolle and six siblings, Ralph (Cleo) Peterson, LaRay McCarthy, Anna Barton, Terry Arnhold, Dennis Peterson and Debbie Kelly and many nieces and nephews.

DeWitt’s Life Celebration will include a memorial gathering on Saturday November 10 2018, from 12 PM to 4 PM at Lake Hopatcong Elks Club, 201 Howard Blvd., Mt Arlington NJ.  Service promptly starting at12:15 PM.  Cremation services were held privately.
