I just found out that Mr Muirhead passed away. He was our nextdoor neighbor with his wife Jean and their little Scotty dog, Mac. He moved away several years ago. He was a wonderful person and was a friend with my parents. My mother loved hearing about Scotland and he would give her Scottish magazines to read. I always remember the story he'd tell me of being a little boy and riding a giant Clydesdale horse bareback to get shod. He just sit there and the horse knew where to go! He loved it when my brother rode his horse past his house and he would always wave. Mr Muirhead was often out tending his tomatoes and would offer them to anyone who wanted. He was an awesome person and very proud of his son who died in the Navy. I was sad when he moved away and even sadder now to learn of his passing. May he rest peacefully.

I met James in the early 80's. He was recommended to do wallpaper in our home. I am a painter and could see he was a journeyman at his trade. We became friends and worked together on many jobs over the years to come. Actually , his last working day was papering my bathroom. He was a gentlemen through and through. As dependable as the sunrise. I recommended him to my customers for years and not once did anyone ever have a complaint. A funny thing about James was he never called a customer by their first name it was always mrs. or mr. so and so. He would be sitting in your driveway waiting for 7 A M. To ring your bell. When he was retiring I asked him how he knew it was time. He said any man that does physical work for a living will get a message from his body when it's time to pack it in. And James , my friend, I'm getting close now at 72 .....enjoy your never ending golf game. Take care. Your friend. Bruce the painter from Sparta....

I never knew James, unfortunately. But I did know his son, John. You see, I worked with John at the A&P in Ledgewood, NJ back in 1973-1974. He was such a thoughtful, caring young man to a new-to-NJ 16 year old kid, me. Just having moved from the Bronx, my parents only had one car, so getting me to and from the A&P was a challenge to say the least. But John stepped up and would drive me home when they couldn’t. I never forgot that. My heart broke when I found out many years later that John had passed, and I never had the chance to really thank him. That chance is today for me to thank him, and his father, James. Thank you James for instilling a sense of caring and friendship in your son John. You must have been a loving man yourself, someone to look up to. May God keep you and John in His ever-loving arms for eternity.
