Obituary of Richard Henry Thies

Richard Henry Thies, 76, of the Succasunna section of Roxbury Township, passed away, peacefully, on Saturday August 3, 2019 at Morristown Medical Center.

Born in Brooklyn on September 2, 1942 to the late Henry and Minna Marie (Sonnet) Thies, Richard resided in Mt. Arlington, NJ for 20 years prior to moving to Succasunna one year ago. He served proudly in the US Navy. Richard enjoyed boating, sailing, landscaping and camping. He was an avid NY Jets, NY Mets and NY Rangers fan. Richard was also fond of the music of Neil Diamond, Fleetwood Mac and The Eagles. Most important to Richard was spending time with his devoted family.

In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his sister, Joan Weiss.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara (DeAngelis), two children, Cindy Cappuccio and her fiancé, John and Scott Thies and his wife, Meredith, five grandchildren, Calvin, Isabella and Stewart Cappuccio and Joshua and Devon Thies and one great grandchild, Margaret Bocchino. Also surviving are Xavier and Alexandra Severin whom Richard and Barbara treated as if they were their own grandchildren and Richard's canine companion, Sadie.

Richard's Life Celebration will include visiting on Thursday August 8, 2019 from 3-7PM at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. Naval honors will begin at 6:30PM at the funeral home. Cremation will be private.
