Roxann was my neighbor and treasured friend. Roxann loved nature’s gifts and the beautiful outdoors. One Saturday we met up with a meet-up group at Waterloo Village for a 2 hour hike geared toward beginners. As daylight turned to dusk we realized something was wrong. We spoke with our guide and he sheepishly admitted that we were off trail. Roxann knew that if we continued on our current path we would eventually reach Sussex Trail. From there we could walk on the road back to Waterloo Village.
That day, our beginners hike turned in to a 5 hour grueling trek over mountainous terrain. When we finally arrived back at Waterloo Village many of the hikers silently returned to their cars and quickly left. Roxann and I just looked at each other and started giggling, the sort of uncontrollable giggles you catch when physically and mentally exhausted.
Roxann’s children, Jasmin and Luc, were the light of her life. She was so proud of both of them. When Roxann spoke about Steve, I could tell she was still in love with him after many years of marriage. She also spoke about Suzi and looked forward to and enjoyed the birthday camping trips.
Roxann was a supportive friend, always there with kind words and a hug when I needed them most. I’ll miss not being able to sit outside with her on a summer or fall evening drinking beer and talking about what mattered most to us.
