Obituary of Roxann Bacon Serna

Roxann B. Serna, 64, of Hopatcong, passed away on Monday December 30, 2019 at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, NY. Born on September 19, 1955 in Bronx, NY to the late Roscoe Bacon and the late Anita Kurchy, Roxann grew up in Piscataway, NJ prior to moving to Hopatcong over 30 years ago. She earned her Associates degree in Equine Arts from Centenary University in Hackettstown. Roxann enjoyed riding her red Super Glide with her husband, Stephen, camping with her twin sister, Susann and spending time with her family, especially her children, Jasmin and Lukas. She also enjoyed horses, nature, kayaking, trap shooting and just being with good friends. Additional activities included a brief time as a volunteer assistant with a therapeutic equestrian program. She also enjoyed participating and assisting with various motorcycle charity rides, like those benefitting Veterans via organizations such as Operation Chill Out and especially Rolling Thunder Chapter 3 New Jersey. A favorite quote is from Thoreau that reads: "Be not simply good, be good for something". Her work experience included working for the Sussex County Co-op, and as Rox would put it, "it was the best job with the best people". Survivors include her husband, Stephen Serna, two children, Jasmin Leone and her husband, Justin and Lukas Serna, sister, Susann Bacon and her companion, Joe Norris and niece Marlaena Catarella and her fiancé, Chris Lowery. 'God saw you getting tired, when a cure was not to be. He wrapped his arms around you, and whispered, “come to me”.' Roxann's Life Celebration will include visiting on Sunday January 5, 2020 from 3:00-7:00 PM at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. A graveside ceremony will be offered on Monday January 6, 2020 at 12 noon at St. Andrew's Ukrainian Cemetery, 280 Main Street, South Bound Brook, NJ.
