Obituary of William Morgan

William (Bill) Morgan, 81, a life-long resident of Mt. Arlington, passed away on November 6, 2020, at VNANNJ Inpatient Hospice Unit at St. Clare's, Dover. Bill was born on November 9, 1938 on Mountain View Avenue to Ethel (Lawrey) and Elijah Morgan. He graduated from Roxbury High School in 1957. Bill proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1964. Bill joined the Mt. Arlington Police Department in December of 1964, becoming Chief of Police in December of 1976. He served as Chief for 19 years, retiring in January of 1995 after 30 years of service. He was a graduate of the N.J Police Academy, a graduate from County College of Morris and attended William Paterson College, graduating in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. He was also a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, 122nd class. Bill opened Morgan's Sport Shop in 1981 and it quickly became a popular local hang out for the outdoorsmen. Bill also was a Mt. Arlington councilman from 1995 – 1997. After retirement, Bill became a real estate agent for Weichert Realtors. He was the fire official and zoning officer for Chester and Bernard's Townships and worked at Deer Run Golf Course mowing the fairways. He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Mt. Arlington Fraternal Order of Police, FBI Academy, and a member of the NRA. Bill loved to golf, fish and hunt, especially at his cabin in Walton, NY. Spending time with his grandchildren was the highlight of his day. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Janet (New) Morgan. Bill was the devoted father of Jason and his wife Gina of Roxbury. He was the dear grandfather of Jake, Evan, and Lila. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his brothers Joe, Jimmy, Bruce, George, and Kevin. Bill's Life Celebration Services will include a visitation on Tuesday, November 10th from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a Prayer Service offered at 6:30 pm at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. All services have been entrusted to and under the care of Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ 07850. Private Cremation will follow. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity.
