Dear Sue, Mark, Stephen and families ,
My sincere sympathy goes out to all of you as you deal with the loss of your beloved Lois. I was privileged to have her as a next door neighbor and good friend, and I have missed her in the years since she left Lancaster to live with all of you. I'm sure you all provided her with the love and care she needed in her final years, and you can take comfort in knowing how much that meant to her.
As charming and talented an actress as she was, she was just as delightful a person. I always thought of her as a blend of Imogene Coca and Pat Carrol, both gifted comediennes of her generation. I loved her performances at the Rainbow, but my favorite was, I believe, her final role as "Emma", a feisty and lovable grandma. She took on the role while she herself was dealing with serious health concerns, but still gave her highest standard of performance. At the play's end, "Emma" delivered a moving soliloquy in which she reflected on her life with her recently deceased husband, and her life's many challenges. That night, Lois showed a depth that previous roles seldom required. It left me in tears. Her passing is so very sad, but she gave all of us much joy and wisdom. May happy memories help to comfort you. David Wagner
