Obituary of John D. Flinn

John D. (“Jack”) Flinn, 90, of Hopatcong, formerly of Hasbrouck Heights passed away on Monday November 29, 2021 at St. Clare’s Hospital in Dover. Born on October 31, 1931 in Jersey City to the late John and Agnes (Finneran) Flinn, John served proudly in the United States Army. John was a graduate of St. Peter’s Prep in Jersey City and attended St. Peter’s College and Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute. He spent most of his career building public infrastructure projects. John was an avid sailor. He was a member of the Lake Hopatcong Yacht Club and served as co-chairperson of their Race Committee. He was the founder of the Lake Hopatcong Preservation Group, and was appointed by Gov. Kean to serve on the State Boating Commission. John was predeceased by his beloved wife Elizabeth (Collins) in October, 2020. Survivors include four children, Thomas (Debora), James (Anne), Betty (Kathy Hughes) and Peggy (Louis) Licameli, nine grandchildren, Jennifer (Joseph) Knizeski, Patrick (Jean), Timothy (Tanya), Daniel (Jade), Kaitlin (Michael) Eberhardt, Bernadette, Michael and Christopher and Tess Licameli and five great grandchildren, Claire and Sean, Emma and Benjamin Knizeski and Alexandra. John’s Life Celebration will include visiting on Sunday December 5, 2021 from 4-8PM at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ 07850. A funeral Mass will be offered on Monday December 6 beginning at 9:00 AM at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 204 Espanong Road, Lake Hopatcong, NJ. All are invited to meet directly at church for Mass. John will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery, 3620 Tilden Avenue, Brooklyn, NJ. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Jack’s memory to either St. Peter’s Prep, 144 Grand St., Jersey City, NJ 07302 or the Lake Hopatcong Foundation, 125 Landing Rd., Landing, NJ 07850.
