Obituary of Joseph W. Sabatini Sr.

Joseph W. Sabatini, Sr. of Hackettstown, NJ, formerly of Byram, NJ passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Hackettstown Medical Center. He was 82 years old. 

Joseph was born on July 10, 1940 in Morristown, NJ to the late Frank Joseph Sabatini and the late Helen Catherine (Low) Sabatini. He resided in Byram prior to moving to Long Valley and finally Heath Village in Hackettstown, NJ in 2021.

Joseph was a Retired Union Electrician for Local IBEW 581 & 102. He enjoyed bowling, golf, softball, playing cards, traveling & watching the Yankees. Joseph was a member of the Byram Township Men’s Softball League and the Friday Night Classic Bowling League at Circle Lanes where he served as the secretary for many years.

His favorite places to visit were Long Beach Island, Oglebay Resort, Circle Lanes Pizzeria, Alaska and any golf course. His life was influenced by the likes of his Yankee idol: Yogi Berra, as well as his dear friends and colleagues: Nicholas Lella, Oscar Pickenheim, Jason Lance and Bud Simon.  Joseph was described by his family as a loving, jovial, kindly generous, and proud man.

Survivors include his son Joseph W. Sabatini Jr. (Roxanne) and his daughter Tami-Lynn Keller Sabatini (Steven Borngesser). Grandchildren Angelica Lynn Sabatini, Nicholas Frank Sabatini (Maria), Crystal Garrison (Tyler), Kimberly Keller and Steven Borngesser, Jr. His great grandchildren Liam, Aubrey, Riley, Layla, Shane, Ariana and Ella. His brother Donald Sabatini (Claire). He is also survived by his Fiancé Eleanor (Ellie) Brown. He is predeceased by his sister Marie Cortright Swan.

Joseph’s Life Celebration will be on Sunday, March 19 from 4:00-8:00 PM at the Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing. Mass will be offered on Monday, March 20 at 11:00 AM at St. Michael Church, 4 Church Street, Netcong, NJ.  Relatives and friends are invited to meet directly at church for Mass.  An informal gathering of friends and family will be held immediately after the Mass.
