Obituary of Sammie DeRosa

Sammie DeRosa, 90, of Green Township, NJ passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 7, 2024.

Born on October 26, 1933 in Galloway, WV to the late Louie and the late Susan (Cavarette) DeRosa, Sammie resided in Rockaway, NJ prior to moving to Green Township. He served proudly in the United States Army. Sammie was retired from his occupation as Supervisor of Building and Grounds with the Parsippany Board of Education.

Sammie loved small engine repairs, casinos, fishing and the gym. Sammie was adored by all who knew him. He made friends easily and was often heard telling jokes and making people laugh. The "life of the party" was a phrase often used to describe Sammie. He was an avid John Wayne fan and enjoyed his cowboy television shows. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Sammie was predeceased by wives; Diane (Mickens) DeRosa and Mildred (Calvaret) DeRosa, son; Samuel DeRosa, siblings; Dominick DeRosa, Louie DeRosa, Joan Cacciabeve, Annette Cardone, Elizabeth Sylvestre and Rose Sylvestre.

Survivors include his daughter Sandra DeFoe and her spouse Gary with whom Sammie has lived with for the last 16 years, son; Robert DeRosa and his spouse Maggie, grandchildren; Rose DeRosa, Kyle Bloom, Samantha Bloom, Ryan Bloom and Mea DeRosa and siblings; Frank DeRosa, Donald DeRosa, Mary DeRosa and Phina Kostka.

Sammie's Life Celebration will include visiting hours on Monday March 11 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, NJ. A funeral service will be offered Tuesday, March 12 beginning at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Tuesday beginning at 9:30 AM. Sammie will be laid to rest at Mount Rest Cemetery, 15 Kakeout Road, Butler, NJ 07405.
