Carmine DeMuccio

Obituary of Carmine DeMuccio

Carmine "Mo" DeMuccio, also known as Carm to some, was a long-standing resident and citizen of Netcong, NJ passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at Merry Heart Care Center surrounded by his loving family. He was 88 years old. "Mo" was born on July 24, 1935 on his beloved Stoll Street in Netcong, NJ to the late James and the late Catherine Arbolino DeMuccio.

During his childhood on Stoll Street, he coached the Lower Stoll Street kids against the Upper Stoll Street kids (Beaky the Buzzard's Team). "Mo" was a proud graduate of Netcong Elementary School and Netcong High School - Class of 1953. As an upper classman at NHS, he was always cordial and supportive of prospective younger athletes, especially in football. "Mo" was instrumental with other classmates while at NHS in the redesign of the class ring. He was a good athlete who played both football and basketball (#12). He played with the famed Jim McConologue teams and was a teammate of Johnny Giantonio.

"Mo" graduated Moravian College in Pennsylvania and majored in History. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and then returned to Netcong High School as a Teacher and a Coach. "Mo" was a dynamic and passionate football and basketball coach for NHS and was highly respected by his students for his sincerity and dedication to serving their needs, both athletically and scholastically. Mo was an avid sportsman and loved golf, fishing and Notre Dame.

"Mo" remained with the Netcong School System and then moved on to the Lenape Valley High School Regional System when the three districts regionalized. While at Lenape Valley HS, he also taught Social Studies and Driver Ed (even though he NEVER wore a seatbelt). While a stern disciplinarian in school, his compassion and understanding of expected behaviorisms of the students he served made him a very effective adult role model for many students. He was also a lifelong and proud member of the Assumption Society of Netcong. "Mo" also served on the Netcong Borough Council from January 1973 until April 1978 when he was then appointed to fill the unexpired term of the mayor. He remained in that position for three months and then resigned from the Council.

"Mo" married Annette (Lamberto) Oswald and together, they raised a wonderful son, Jimmy DeMuccio. He is also survived by his cherished nieces and nephews, Sandy Grogan, Tim Grogan and his wife, Angela, Cathy Weaver, and her husband Earl and Maureen Zaccarino and her husband Joe. Additional survivors include too many great-nieces, great-nephews and dear friends to mention. He was pre-deceased by his beloved sister, Thomasina Grogan in 2015.

"Mo's" Life Celebration Services will include a Funeral Mass on Monday, July 8th at 10:00 am at St. Therese RC Church, 151 Main Street, Succasunna, NJ. Family and friends are invited to meet directly at the Church on Monday morning. Military Honors will be held at the Church immediately following the Funeral Mass. All additional Services will be held privately and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Therese RC Church in memory of Carmine.
