Obituary of Matthew G. Vesel

Matthew G. Vesel, formerly of the Landing section of Roxbury, passed away on Monday June 23 at the Arbors at Marietta Care Center, Marietta, OH. He was 91. Born in Millvale, PA, "Matty" resided in Landing for over 60 years. He was a decorated World War II Army veteran, receiving the Silver Star, four bronze stars and a Purple Heart. He landed and fought bravely at Omaha Beach and the Battle of the Bulge until being wounded in action. He was one of Roxbury Township's first police officers in 1947 and worked for many years as a self-employed mason contactor. He was predeceased by his wife Edna Mae in 2001. Survivors include two sons, Andrew Vesel and wife, Mary, and George Vesel and Torrie, two granddaughters, Jaimi-Lyn and Kelsey May and three great grandchildren, Lucas, Lillianne and Livia. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to celebrate Matty's life on Friday June 27 from 6-9 PM at the Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, Landing. A prayer service will be offered on Saturday June 28 beginning at 10:00AM at the funeral home. Family and friends may gather at 9:00 am prior to prayers. Matty and Edna will be laid to rest at Flanders-Hillside Cemetery in Roxbury Township.
