Fr. John always had a timely practical application of the gospel related to the weekly news or a prominent topic or a funny story which would clink in your mind afterward, to share quickly with the parish in a Sunday sermon. Fr. John knew his parishioners were busy, that he had only a few moments to capture their attention and hold it to get his message across. I have missed his whit which he often shared in the sacristy after mass as we put away the communion utensils. He will remain in our hearts until we meet again.
