Jan & Family:As you begin your journey or good days and bad days and things have slowed down a bit, you now have more time to reflect. I'm sure you are reliving si many of your happy memories, but please know that we too are reflecting on what a SPECIAL man Joe Del was. My dad told me more than once, "The good Lord puts special people in your life to help you get through. It is obvious Joe Del was that person to so many people. We'll never know how many people may have been having a bad day when they ran into Joe, but we all know they were feeling a whole lot better when they left him.Missy said it best during her tribute "his job in life was to make others feel good and he did it amazingly well". Your family has always been so giving. You and Joe Del opened your pool, your home, and your hearts to anyone and everyone.
For those who wanted to see the meaning of love they just needed to stop by 105 Wiltop Road during the week of Joe's passing. The number of people who stopped by to offer condolances, the many of "Joe Del" jokes and stories relived, the beautiful tribute by the firemen, and one of the most touching funeral services I have ever witnessed. From: Father O'Connor calling Joe Del a special friend (after knowing him for only 3 years, then Jeri, by the grace of God making her Eucharistic Ministry debut, with her father clearly present , to Missy delivering the beautiful tribute to her dad. between the mass and the repast, (in which Scott & Connie once again, graciously opened their doors to the public) there was a strong feeling that Joe Del was amongst us.
I read a quote once that stated "Don't be afraid your life will end-be afraid it will never begin. Joe Del's life began a long time ago: he lived it to the fullest and in doing so helped many others do the same.
May God Bless You and Your Family.
Joe, Lynn, AJ & Jordan.

MOMENT OF RESPECT FOR "JOE DEL"
Anyone who has been associated long enough with Lenape Valley recognizes the fact that what sets us apart as a school is our strong sense of "family". Sadly, the Lenape family mourns the passing twenty year groundskeeper Joseph Del Vecchio. Joe Del was that special man whose presence always left you with a smile on your face, as well as a piece of hard cany in your hand. This candy, NIPS, magically seemed to appear from out of nowhere, and he always seemed to have an endless supply. He was a vibrant and vital member of the local community, and his were among the hands that crafted the beauty of the LVR campus, as well as "Patriots Field". We extend our deepest condolences to his family. At this time, we respectfully request of you to please stand for a moment of silent rememberance for Joe Del.

On bejalf of Myself, My Family and the Netcong Assumption Society.
Its a sad day in Netcong and I am speechless. Tonight we grieve for the loss of a fine friend, for his wife and family, the loss of a neighbor and the loss of our "Joe Del". Our prayers are with thme all. It is with heavy hearts and great sadness which we are deeply affected by Joe's death, because, no one will be able to replace this big hearted, gentle giant who had a great sense of humor and a gift for connecting with people. The infamouse Joe Del, the Prince of Laughter, Jokes and his specialty of handing out "NIPS", has been taken away from us to tell his jokes to a bigger audience. All I can say is that our little town has lost one of its biggest icons. There will never be another Joe Del. He was so special to many of us who had the honor of knowing him, but whose hearts he touched with goodness and laughter. He was "OUR HERO". Joe was a man of profound faith in God and the Blessed Mother and was a member of our society for over 60 years. He served our country in World War II, he was a Netcong Fireman for over 40 years and he was one of the original blackface performers in the Netcong Minstrel shows back in the mid 50's. He loved being around kids, it did not matter what age, new bornes, grade schoolers, junior high schoolers and of course the students at Lenape Valley High School. Joe was nothing but a big kid himself, always making us laugh. Our lives are much richer for knowing Joe Del because he walked among us and the lessons he taught us.
Rest in Peace Joe Del

I am so sorry to hear of Joe's passing. I apologize I was not able to convey my condolences in person, but I was out of state and just returned on Tuesday. Joe was a very special person with a wonderful smile, personality and of course quick wit! I remember my mom going to the A & P in Ledgewood to shop and he would follow her around the store making her laugh so much she would plead with him to stop. She would forget half of the things she needed and would have to go back the following day. She knew what was going to happen. She eventually realized she couldn't shop without a list. He brought a lot of joy to those he touched. How blessed are we to have had the privilege to know him. He may be gone, but certainly will never be forgotten. He lives on through those wonderful memories that can never be taken away from us.....he's still putting a smile on our faces when we recall the precious moments. May God give you strength and peace during this most difficult time. With Love, Jean

A TRIBUTE TO MY DAD
Thank you all for joining us here today to celebrate my father's wonderful life. Ever since his death, I've had this image in my head of him getting to heaven and shaking God's hand and saying "you afraid of me?", and when God says no, dad says "then why you shakin"?? Even though every one of us has probably heard him say that joke a thousand times, we'd all still laugh everytime he told it.
My dad was a humble, simple man, but he had a gift that no amount of money could buy. He had the ability to make you fall in love with him just by meeting him in the street. Whether you were a lifelong friend or someone he had just met in the Quik Chek, you couldn't help but feel happy being around him. His sense of humor and his goofy disposition could brighten even the darkest day. You could always count on my Dad for a Nip and a joke! God has never sent a sweeter man to walk this earth. His job in life was to make other people feel good, and he did it amazingly well! My dad would give you the shirt off his back and the last nickel in his pocket. He was a loyal and true-blue husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. If you were lucky enough to have Joe Del in your life, you knew that your back was always covered!
If my brother, sister and I have grown up to possess even one quarter of his kindness, his compassion, his goodness, his honesty, then we can consider ourselves successful in life. He taught us that we should be leaders, not followers. He taught us to work hard. His greatest lesson to us was to be nice to everyone, and they will be nice to you in return. He continued teaching those lessons to his beautiful grand daughter, who shares PopPop's twinkling eyes and quickness with the one-liners. No title could ever make me feel more proud to own than that of "Joe Del's daughter".
Dad was blessed to meet his soulmate over 55 years ago. He was a faithful and rock-solid companion. He and my mom shared a beautiful life together. From the moment he got sick, my mother never left his side. Thank you mom, for taking such good care of daddy for us. His family was everything to him, and he was everything to us.
My dad would hate to think that we were sitting here upset because of him. He would want us to be sharing funny stories and laughing and remembering the good times. He will be forever locked in our hearts and we will carry him with us where ever we go. Although time will ease the unbearable pain we are all feeling today, it will never erase the memories of this beautiful, one of a kind man. To paraphrase Dr. Seuss, don't cry because he's gone, smile because he was here.
I know that when Dad got to heaven, God and Joe Ben were waiting to greet him with open arms, ready to show him around and welcome him into the Angel's Club.
Daddy, we wish you a safe, gentle journey. Thank you for the precious gift you have given us - the gift of you. You were pure magic!! We love you more than you will ever know!!

I am so truly sorry to her about your Dad's passing. He was a wonderful person and a real character! No matter what~ Joe Del would ALWAYS put a smile on your face. When I think of him, I have to laugh~ that's just what he did~ made people laugh and have a good time!!
I think of the FUNNY glasses at my wedding and how hard he laughed wearing them around that night.
I think of the HULA dancer practically giving him a lap dance and him TRYING to pretend he wasn't looking!!
I think of him with the HULA skirt on and learning how to dance the hula!!
I see him in "your" back yard with a big smile on his face looking at the landscaping ~ the pool and the koi pond.
I see him with his LVP t-shirt on
I see him marching proudly with his pals in the Assumption Society the day of the feast
I hear him telling jokes
I hear him saying.......Yvonnaaaaaaa ~ wannnnnnaaaa cracker ~ then laughing.
I hear him asking if you want some candy.
I thank you all for allowing me to get to know this truly WONDERFUL man.....He holds a special place in my heart and will certainly be missed.
God Bless you

The DelVecchio's are the most close knit family I know. Family is everything to them and I'm sure they are devasted by the loss of this wonderful and kind man, but I agree with my sister Candy, he would want his life celebrated, and there was much to celebrate. Joe was a joy to be around. He delighted in his family and his only granddaughter, Jenna. The DelVecchio's are my sister Connie's in- laws, but it was such a pleasure to be in their company, that they were always included in our family get togethers. I'm sorry that we are unable to be with you in your time of need and I'm sorry I was unable to see Joe when I was in NJ 2 weeks ago. He just wasn't up to it, but I hope he knows how much he meant to me. Jan, someday when you are up to it, I hope you will come visit us in Florida. Joe Del was born on the thirteenth of May
A man so adored by all, what can I say..
He lived in Netcong for most of his 84 years.
And with his passing brings so many tears.
But, we know Joe would not want us to be sad.
He would want us to celebrate the wonderful life that he had.
Joe shared more than 50 years with Jan a wonderful wife.
A fabulous partnership which made for a great life.
He was father and best friend to Scott, Missy, and Jeri.
And if they were sad, he would always make them merry.
He worked for years as a Dairy Manager at the old A & P,
And he was a fireman, groundskeeper and even coached at little league.
He was proud taking care of his in ground pool.
It made his kids popular and they thought Joe Del was real cool.
Joe loved his roni's and his glass of red wine.
Jan made the effort to cook it, time after time.
He was someone who got so tan while sitting under a tree.
While most of us to get that dark would have to pay a fee.
Joe was known for telling his many jokes and funny one- liners.
How nice to make people laugh, what could be finer.
Joe is up in heaven now in peace and harmony,
He was a very kind and giving man and that is truly key.
Joe was husband, dad, friend, and pop-pop, so many different parts,
And there will always be a place for Joe deep in all our hearts.
We will miss him.

There's not a star in the sky that shined brighter than our "Joe Del". Jan, Scotty, Missy, Jeri, Connie, and Jenna, I hope you realize how important and special your family, especially Joe, made me feel. When my parents moved to FL I was so sad and felt so alone and your entire family took me in...I am forever grateful for your hospitality and for making me, Anthony, and the girls, feel like a part of your family. Our girls called him Pop-Pop Joe, I called him Joey, and Ant called him Joe Del. At 70 years old, he shoveled my driveway when I was pregnant and Ant was away on business. Thats who he was! He was always so funny. He always made everyone around him feel like so special and happy! I will especially miss his dirty old man laugh after he would hug me and say, "lets go in a darkroom and see what develops!" There was nothing better than seeing him with our girls; playing and chasing them around the netcong house. He was their clown! At every birthday party, singing the loudest and the proudest! He taught them how to do bird calls and to speak German, and knock knock jokes. I'll miss him lovingly referring to Jan as "the seargant". The world will never be the same without our "Joe". He touched so many lives and I for one am a better person for having known him. We love you all and wish you the best! Heaven is a better place! Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you. Nannie, the girls wanted me to give you a big hug and a kiss and can't wait to see you! God Bless and love to you all! xxx ooo
