Obituary of Joseph J. Benvenuto

Joseph J. Benvenuto died Monday September 3, 2007 at St. Clare's Hospital in Denville. He was 81 years old. Born in Netcong to the late Ettore and Cecelia (nee: Mangiacapra) Mr. Benvenuto was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Netcong High School in 1944. He was employed as a produce manager with A&P Tea Company in Flanders for 40 years prior to his retirement in 1987. At which time he worked for Rudolph Research in Flanders from 1988-1998. He was also the sports editor for the Netcong News Leader for 25 years. Mr. Benvenuto was a World War II Army veteran serving in the Member Battery A 460th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion out of Fort Bragg, NC. His military service was from 1945-46. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council in Netcong, the American Legion #278 of Stanhope, and active member of St. Michaels RC Church in Netcong, volunteered in local Little League baseball and football as a coach, served as Master of Ceremonies for various sports banquets and awards events and was an avid writer of poetry and humorous anecdotes. Loving husband of the late Joyce (nee: O'Connell) who passed in 1997. Beloved father of Wayne and wife, Cindy of Stanhope, Joseph and wife, Lynn of Byram, Jack and wife, Kelly of Stanhope, Glenn of Byram and Lynn Hickey and husband Frank of Byram.. Adoring grandfather of eight grandchildren. Dearest brother of Sara Starnadori of Stroudsburg, PA, Mary Johnson of Port Morris, Lawrence of Hackettstown, the late James, the late John, the late Antoinette Zurcher and the late Ida Bilas. Also surviving are many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
